Canton Fair Building Materials Sourcing Guide
Plan the right exhibition sections, supplier questions and factory follow-up for a construction procurement visit.
Use the fair to build a qualified shortlist
The Canton Fair can help you meet building material suppliers and compare product ranges in Guangzhou. It is most useful when you arrive with a specification brief and a clear follow-up process. A busy booth and a polished catalog do not establish that a supplier can deliver your exact project.
Choose the right phase and exhibition section
| Buying interest | Planning approach |
|---|---|
| Building and decorative materials | Review the Phase 2 section and current exhibitor directory |
| Sanitary and bathroom equipment | Check the Phase 2 product section for the specific models you need |
| Lighting and electrical-related products | Review the relevant Phase 1 sections and exact category placement |
| Mixed project package | Determine whether multiple phases or follow-up factory appointments are worthwhile |
Check the official Canton Fair website for the current session dates, section arrangements, exhibitor details and buyer registration. Do not book around an old third-party schedule. This guide is a purchasing workflow rather than a dated event calendar.
Prepare a one-page RFQ for each category
Include project type, destination, quantities, dimensions, finishes, required performance and delivery date. Separate essential requirements from preferences. Attach drawings for custom items and identify the revision. Give the same information to each candidate so quotations can be compared.
For tiles, record format, finish and installation area. For windows, provide an opening schedule. For cabinetry, include room measurements and appliance interfaces. For sanitary ware, specify connection and model-documentation requirements. Keep detailed project files available for shortlisted suppliers rather than relying on a verbal discussion.
Questions to ask at the booth
| Question | Useful evidence |
|---|---|
| Who manufactures this product? | Legal company and production address |
| Can this specification be produced? | Relevant samples, drawings and technical response |
| Which models have the required evidence? | Full documents with matching references |
| What is the minimum order? | Written minimum per size, finish and model |
| What does the price include? | Accessories, packing and delivery basis |
| When can goods be inspected? | Production milestones and access agreement |
Record meetings while details are fresh
Use a supplier reference number for the business card, booth, sample photographs and quotation. Note the person responsible for technical follow-up. Ask permission before photographing restricted displays. Record unresolved questions rather than treating a sales answer as a final commitment.
At the end of each day, separate suitable candidates from those missing essential capabilities. A smaller qualified shortlist is easier to verify than a large pile of unrelated catalogs.
Move from fair contact to factory review
Request written quotations after the fair and compare them line by line. Check the legal seller, production site and payment arrangement. Arrange samples and relevant factory visits before paying for production. A fair badge is not a substitute for due diligence.
If the project includes Foshan products, use the market guide to plan focused follow-up visits. Allow enough time for technical review rather than trying to combine every city into one day.
Plan approvals and shipment after selection
Agree drawings, samples, inspection and the defect-resolution process before production. Review product documentation against destination needs. Coordinate ready dates across suppliers and use a consolidation plan for mixed orders.
Keep a dated comparison of total cost, not just the booth offer. Include samples, factory checks, packing and freight in the budget.
Buyer questions
Should I place an order at the fair?
Only when the specification, supplier checks and commercial terms are sufficiently clear. There is no need to rush a custom project because the exhibition is ending.
Can I cover all materials in one phase?
Do not assume so. Check the current category directory and plan around your actual product list.
Is the displayed sample the production standard?
Only if you document and approve it as the reference for your order.
Plan the next step
Send your specifications, quantities, destination and required delivery date. We will clarify the sourcing scope, supplier checks, inspection requirements and shipment coordination before you commit.
