Porcelain and ceramic tiles from China

A buying guide to Foshan suppliers, grades, minimum orders, batch checks and export packing for project and wholesale tile orders.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles from China

Specify the tile before comparing factories

Wholesale tile sourcing starts with the intended installation. A decorative wall tile, a busy hotel corridor and an exposed terrace need different specifications. Give suppliers the room schedule, quantity by size, finish, edge treatment and performance requirements. Ask your designer to approve suitability for each use before ordering.

Foshan is a useful place to compare brands and showrooms, but the sales address may differ from the production site. Establish which company manufactures your selected series and which legal entity will sign the order. A factory visit should check the line relevant to your product, not just an impressive reception area.

Porcelain and ceramic product comparison

Product Buying focus Evidence to request
Porcelain floor tiles Dimensions, thickness, finish and intended traffic Technical data and applicable test reports
Ceramic wall tiles Wall suitability, glaze and matching trims Approved samples and installation guidance
Large format slabs Thickness, flatness, edge processing and handling Fabrication drawing and crate design
Outdoor pavers Installation method, slip performance and exposure Reports matching the specified product

Factory tiers and grade labels

Compare suppliers by production capability, documentation, consistency and service. Brand size alone does not establish whether a particular batch meets your specification. Labels such as AAA, premium and first choice are not a substitute for a written acceptance standard. Ask the supplier to describe permissible defects, dimensional tolerances and shade variation in the contract.

Keep a signed reference sample with its model, finish and batch details. For patterned surfaces, approve a group of pieces so the expected variation is clear. Photograph the selection and record any agreed limits. Do not accept a sample from one series while the invoice describes a broader product family.

MOQ and price comparison

Minimum quantities depend on stock availability, design, size, packaging and whether production is custom. Request a minimum per SKU and a separate total order minimum. Confirm whether a mixed order will use consistent batches. A stock offer may disappear before the deposit clears, so ask the supplier to confirm reserved quantity and reservation terms.

Quotation field What it must state
Price unit Per square metre or per piece, with conversion
Grade and batch Written acceptance criteria and shade or calibre reference
Quantity Required area, agreed spares and carton rounding
Packing Pieces per carton, pallet count and gross weight
Delivery basis Named place and agreed Incoterm
Schedule Stock release or production date after approval

Do not treat a general online price list as a current offer. Obtain a dated quote for the approved specification. An example payment structure is 30 percent deposit and 70 percent balance, but it is not a universal rule. Negotiate the milestones and inspection process in writing.

Inspect shade, calibre and packing

Check carton labels against the purchase order, compare pieces from different cartons under consistent lighting, measure dimensions and review visible defects. Agree the sampling method before inspection. A visual inspection cannot establish every technical performance claim, so use appropriate test evidence where required.

Record defects with carton numbers, photographs and quantities. Agree correction or replacement before releasing the shipment. Specify installation spares with the designer instead of assuming a single percentage suits every layout. Diagonal layouts, vein matching and future repairs can change the requirement.

Plan heavy cargo by weight as well as volume

Tiles can reach a container weight limit before filling its cubic capacity. Use actual pallet weights and confirm equipment, road and port restrictions with the forwarder. A 40 foot container does not automatically carry twice the tile weight of a 20 foot container. Crates for slabs also need handling clearance and a safe unloading plan.

Coordinate this order with your container consolidation plan. Inspect goods before warehouse collection and keep a separate loading record. Our pre-shipment inspection guide will explain how checks differ from transport insurance.

Questions buyers ask

Can I mix several tile designs?

Often, but the answer depends on stock and production minimums. Confirm each design and batch before committing to the overall order.

Does a grade label guarantee quality?

No. The useful reference is your agreed specification, approved sample and documented acceptance criteria.

Should I buy through a showroom or factory?

A showroom can make selection easier. Direct production access may help with repeat or custom runs. Compare the complete offer, responsibilities and documentation, not just the seller label.

Coordinate inspection and shipping

Use our pre-shipment inspection checklist to agree checks before payment and our container consolidation guide to coordinate packing and supplier ready dates. Confirm destination requirements with the product documentation guide.
